  1. FC Can I bring my Paladin?

Hi hello, in game I'm K'ta Keshra, I like flying my Paladin. I've lost quite a few of them, I've killed lots of shit in them - it's good fun (https://zkillboard.com/character/264448368/). However as of late I've not had as much use for the account and am looking to fix that. I've put together a fit that rivals your Tach NM's in every regard and is better than them in most ways. At first glance the Paladin might be easily dismissed because it lacks the utility mids to fit Tracking Computers and Sensor Boosters to help get the range and scan resolution needed to be effective. However this is easily made up for by skipping Tach's altogether and going with Mega Pulses instead and helped along by a plethora of low slots. You get easily comparable tracking (much better tracking depending on how the NM pilot is using his scripts), easily comparable ranges for the ammo you guys bring in your NM's. Much better ROF and at longer ranges much better DPS because of the benefit of having access to the most broken ammo in the game, Scorch. Now you might say "But four mids! How do you shield tank it?!" Well, turns out you can put two invulns on just about anything and BOOM, shield tanked - I get a respectable 115k ehp without links. I I even get a plethora of extra high slots like the NM so can run cap chains ezpz. I also warp .2 whole AU faster and align an entire second faster, think of the value! Also, if it matters, I'm a literally perfect Paladin pilot. I'm training Shield Management V atm (6hrs left) for my level V mastery badge. Well here's the fit: [Paladin, PaladinWTM] Syndicate Damage Control True Sansha Heat Sink True Sansha Heat Sink True Sansha Heat Sink True Sansha Heat Sink Sentient Signal Amplifier Republic Fleet Tracking Enhancer Core X-Type 500MN Microwarpdrive Pithum A-Type Adaptive Invulnerability Field Pithum A-Type Adaptive Invulnerability Field Republic Fleet Large Shield Extender Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch L Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch L Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch L Mega Pulse Laser II, Scorch L Imperial Navy Large Remote Capacitor Transmitter Imperial Navy Large Remote Capacitor Transmitter [Empty High slot] [Empty High slot] Large Energy Locus Coordinator II Large Energy Locus Coordinator II Acolyte II x5 Warrior II x5 Hobgoblin II x5

And Scorch vs Multi gives the edge the NM in DPS but that's about it. The Paladin has more consistent dps at further ranges with the scorch, and if the NM is switching to longer range ammo the Paladin is going to have more DPS than the NM anyways.

So the range scripts on the close range ammo is a moot point as you'd be using tracking scripts and we were looking at range in the graphs.

And the Paladin is still doing more dps at 90km than the Nightmare. Try using range scripts with that close range ammo and Tach's. GL hitting anything not stationary.

L O L. Did you just completely not read my post in the first place? I linked a different fit than you have on your website. One that uses the Paladin's bonuses for what they're meant for and not shoving it into a close range dps role. Using my fit here's Multi vs Scorch: And here's Ultraviolet vs Scorch: and finally here's Conflag vs Multi: As you can see, at sniping range where the NM is using long range ammo, the Paladin is out dpsing it and has better optimal. With Scorch vs Multifrequency the Paladin is still doing it's full dps out to 90km whereas the NM is doing less than half at that range. The only time the NM is in a weird situation where you're both using short range ammo on your sniping boats in Conflag vs Multi where the falloff from the tracking computers really shines. So thanks again for completely disregarding what I had said before and trying to act like I had no idea what I was talking about in my statements. And here's the fit again, for reference. That's like saying 'Gleam puts the NM's out of Sniping range this is why they are now dps ships.' The Paladin is extremely bonused towards long range combat, has very few mids to work with to make use of webs/application effectively, wants to cap chain to make use of it's abundant extra high slots, and gets Tach NM range with better tracking and dps out of Mega Pulses and yet here we are still trying to cram it into a dps role? That doesn't make sense.

So going off of the ammo that's included as suggested ammo in the cargo of the Sniper NM fit we have Gleam, Multi, Gamma, Xray, and Ultraviolet. For the Nightmare: Ultraviolet: 83km optimal 49k falloff (Range Scripts) - 778dps Xray: 71km optimal 49k falloff (Range Scripts) - 864dps Gamma: 41km optimal 25km falloff (Tracking Scripts) - 951dps Multifrequency: 33km optimal 25km falloff (Tracking Scripts) - 1037dps Gleam: 16km optimal 25km falloff (Tracking Scripts) -1052dps I put tracking scripts on the close range ammo because at the end of the day we need to hit the target, but I'm fully aware that this would be a case by case situation. Paladin: Using same ammos as the Nightmare but Conflag instead of Gleam. Scorch: 90km optimal 15km falloff - 826dps Ultraviolet: 56km optimal 15km falloff - 777dps Xray: 48km optimal 15km falloff - 863dps Gamma: 40km optimal 15km falloff - 950dps Multifrequency: 32km optimal 15km falloff - 1036dps Conflag: 32km optimal 15km falloff - 1156dps At long ranges where the NM is using range scripts you get less optimal but more falloff, and for lasers optimal will always be what you want to be operating in. You also get considerably less tracking at those ranges just by nature of Tachs without any tracking bonuses. There's also no messing around with scripts for ammo changes, having to wait till the tracking computers cylce down and whatnot. If you do the NM with no scripts the Paladin further outshines it at longer ranges where the NM doesn't have the innate optimal hull bonuses the Paladin does. I think saying the Paladin has a range issue is just you talking without actually looking at the numbers. In terms of the passive EM resistance module, you can take the lse off and put an A-Type passive EM mod on and still be over the 100k ehp.

Out of curiosity why would you slot the Paladin into a DPS slot instead of a Sniper slot when it's hull is so oriented towards the latter? Especially if, as you said, you're sacrificing so much in not having a Vindi in the same slot as a DPS boat (which I would totally agree with, for a dps ship I'd always rather have the Vindi). I linked and explained the rationale behind my fit because when compared to the Nightmare's job the pulse Paladin fills the roll admirably and you're not actually sacrificing dps or utility to run it - actually increasing both.
